No Waste! participates in a project that investigates the use of plastic in food packaging.
Plastic should only be used as part of a food product packaging system where it is proven the most environmentally preferable option relating to climate effects and plastic littering, based on packaging functions required to minimize food waste. BAMA, Østfoldforskning, Q-meieriene and Gartnerhallen will in this project investigate the functionality of the packaging, aiming to minimize the use of plastic as well as food waste. No Waste! will together with Lindum and VESAR map and characterize amounts and quality of post-consumer plastic packaging that are wrongly sorted at the source, thus following the food waste through the treatment plant into the reject and the digestate. This will take place at “The Magic Factory” in Tønsberg.
The project is co-funded by the Research Council of Norway, and planned to be completed in Q2 2022.
